Stucco Remediation in Drexel Hill, PA

Protect the Character and Structure of Your Drexel Hill Home

Stucco damage is not always a cosmetic problem. Cracks, discoloration, soft spots, or staining can allow water to move behind the exterior and affect the materials that protect your home. When moisture remains hidden, a small visible defect can become a larger concern involving sheathing, framing, insulation, windows, or interior finishes.

Gormley Construction provides professional stucco remediation in Drexel Hill, PA for homeowners who need more than a surface patch. Based in nearby Media, our family-owned exterior remodeling company has served Southeastern Pennsylvania for more than 20 years. Ryan Gormley personally oversees every project, giving homeowners a direct point of contact and a careful, hands-on approach from assessment through final walkthrough.

Whether your Drexel Hill property needs partial remediation or a complete exterior transformation, we begin by understanding what is happening behind the stucco. Our recommendations are tailored to the condition of your home, the extent of the moisture damage, and the exterior you want to maintain or create.

When we had our stucco inspected and learned that there was significant damage, we were confronted with the unpleasant reality that stucco remediation work is tricky. How do you know that your contractor is doing a good job? How do you know that the price you are being quoted is unfair. We contacted multiple companies and did our best to educate ourselves. Turns out that an huge trap to fall in is the fact that some stucco remediation experts will low-ball you on price up front, knowing that the damage to the wood underneath the stucco will be extensive. Once you've signed up with them and they start the work, they can trap you by showing you how ugly the damage is underneath the stucco..."Whoops, looks like the job is WAAAY bigger than expected!" Then they can charge you whatever you want. Enter Ryan Gormley. From beginning to end he was fantastic to work with. First, I probably have never had a contractor who was so proactive with communication. Second, he was a true educator - he told us exactly what he was doing to make sure that our stucco issues would become a thing of the past. Third, he and his team were professional, friendly, and an overall joy to work with. Most importantly, the job looks fantastic. Ryan made sure to educate me on what they accomplished and answered all my questions in a very timely manner. Finally, the work came in perfectly in budget - even though his was one of the lower-cost quotes that came in. Ryan and his team did an terrific job. I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

We contacted Ryan for a stucco problem with our home that was very concerning. We had leakage at some windows and water seeping into the garage. Ryan and his crew were just great. He walked us thru every stage as they tore off much of our exterior and replaced it, layer by layer, with new and improved materials. He replaced our windows and siding as well as the extensive stucco work. He also took care of stonework on the sides of the garage which was a new addition. It’s been almost 2 years since our work was started and everything still looks great. Our home is airtight and beautiful. Many of our neighbors commented that it looks like a brand new house! Ryan did not consider this project completed until we were completely satisfied and that means a great deal. As a homeowner, I could not ask for more. It is a wonderful feeling to find a contractor that you can trust to do the job right. Would recommend Gormley Construction to any of my neighbors, family or friends without reservations.

We worked with Ryan and his team (our main contact was Keith) for a stucco remediation at our home that started in December and took about a month to complete. Our initial interactions with Keith and Ryan were great, they were responsive and answered our questions. The work they did was solid (pictured), and so far has held up well, however we found out this week that at some point during the remediation process, our previously well-functioning A/C unit (which is directly below the scaffolding the crew put up) was no longer working. A heating & cooling company came out and found the copper refrigerant line was pulled up and broken (pictured), with refrigerant and oil spilled all over the ground. This was not something that was ever brought to our attention when it happened, and the line is in such a place that it would be very difficult for anyone to have accidentally bumped it if they didn’t climb over the unit to the back side. We are working with Ryan now try and get the issue fixed, but definitely something that was a disappointing to find out after the fact. Update: Did get in touch with Ryan, who offered to pay for the repair of the AC unit. Ultimately, we went with replacing the unit due to how many pieces needed to be replaced, and Ryan made well on his promise to pay the credit towards replacement. Overall, I have no complaints about the stucco remediation and roof deck build he did for us, only this unfortunate complication. Refreshingly, it was resolved within a week of being made aware of the issue.

Gormley Construction Inc replaced the stucco of my house with Hardie in March 2024. The original stucco had issues, allowing water to penetrate the house. From the first visit, Ryne has demonstrated his professional insight and answered all our questions clearly and candidly. Their team members are professional and friendly. The quality of their work is solid, and there have been no water leaks after several days of rain in April 2024. We are very satisfied with their work.

Ryan and his team were excellent to work with for replacing an entire wall of stucco. Ryan was helpful at every step, and the team worked every day the weather permitted to get a major and urgent repair completed as quickly as possible, without cutting any corners. The quote we received is the final price we paid, there were no hidden fees or additional charges. Very impressively, the stucco texture is a perfect match for the rest of the home! We will be choosing Gormley Construction for any future stucco and construction needs.

Ryan and his team did a stucco remediation for my 30 year old stone and stucco home which had several areas in need of remediation. Many of the other companies I spoke with were all to quick to suggest going with cement board but Ryan laid out the options and I was able to preserve my preferred look of continuing with stucco. Along with his team Ryan was very approachable and easy to communicate with. The job supervisor Keith was also great to work with. The team did superb work and I am very pleased with the finished product as well as the warranty transferrable to a new homeowner. I would definitely use Gormley Construction again if needed and highly recommend them.

When Stucco Repair Is Not Enough

A localized crack or chip may be suitable for targeted stucco repair when the underlying wall system remains sound. Remediation is different. It addresses the exterior assembly and the concealed damage that may have developed behind failing stucco.

Homeowners should schedule an assessment if they notice:

  • Cracks, bulges, holes, or crumbling sections in the stucco.
  • Dark stains, streaks, efflorescence, or recurring discoloration.
  • Soft, damp, or deteriorating areas around windows and doors.
  • Musty odors, mold, or water stains on interior walls.
  • Damaged trim, sills, or frames near exterior openings.
  • Drafts or unexplained changes in indoor comfort.

These signs do not automatically mean that the entire exterior must be replaced. They do indicate that a professional evaluation is warranted. Gormley Construction assesses the affected areas and explains whether a targeted repair, partial remediation, or broader exterior renovation is the most appropriate path.

A Comprehensive Approach to Stucco Remediation

Effective remediation is designed to stop the cycle of water intrusion, repair damage, and restore a durable exterior. Depending on the findings, the project may include removal of compromised stucco, repair of damaged substrate or wall components, improvements to moisture management, and installation of a new exterior finish.

The objective is not simply to make the surface look new. It is to create an exterior that performs reliably in the conditions your home faces and complements its architecture. Gormley Construction can also coordinate a broader exterior remodeling plan when remediation is combined with siding, roofing, trim, window, or other exterior work.

For homeowners considering a new cladding system, Gormley works with premium products, including James Hardie fiber cement siding and CertainTeed vinyl siding. These options can provide a low-maintenance exterior while giving an older home a cohesive, updated appearance. Material selection depends on the property, the desired design, the existing conditions, and the scope established during consultation.

Why Drexel Hill Homes Need Careful Exterior Evaluation

Drexel Hill is a residential community within Upper Darby Township in Delaware County. Its streets include many pre-World War II homes, including Tudor Revival properties, stone and brick Colonials, traditional twins, and other houses with mature landscaping and established architectural details. These homes have character that deserves to be preserved, but their age also means that exterior transitions, flashing, sealants, window openings, and past repairs should be evaluated as part of a remediation plan.

Drexel Hill’s location near Darby Creek and the Philadelphia metropolitan area also means that homes experience humid summers, wet weather, winter cold, and repeated seasonal expansion and contraction. Delaware County’s local hazard outlook identifies increasing heavy-rainfall intensity and a projected increase in annual rainfall later this century. More water exposure makes sound drainage and moisture management especially important for aging exterior assemblies.

The right solution should respect the look of the neighborhood. A remediation plan for a stone-and-stucco Tudor should not be approached like a generic siding replacement. Details such as color, texture, trim proportions, rooflines, masonry transitions, and the relationship between the home and its mature tree canopy all affect the finished result. Gormley Construction brings that broader exterior perspective to homes throughout Drexel Hill and Delaware County.

Exterior Remodeling in Drexel Hill, Delaware County

Stucco problems often reveal an opportunity to address more than one part of the exterior. If the roof, siding, trim, windows, or drainage details are also contributing to moisture exposure, completing related work together may produce a more coordinated and durable result.

Gormley Construction offers exterior remodeling in Drexel Hill, Delaware County, with services that include stucco remediation, stucco repair, siding replacement, siding repair, and roofing replacement. The company works with homeowners who want to protect their most significant investment while improving curb appeal, energy performance, and long-term durability.

A coordinated exterior plan can help you:

  • Resolve visible and concealed moisture concerns.
  • Improve the transition between stucco, masonry, siding, and trim.
  • Restore a consistent appearance across older additions and repairs.
  • Replace deteriorated exterior materials with durable alternatives.
  • Protect the architectural character of a Drexel Hill home.

The scope is developed around your property rather than a one-size-fits-all package. Gormley Construction does not publish a standard stucco remediation price because every project depends on the extent of damage, access, materials, and related exterior work. After the assessment, you receive tailored recommendations and a detailed estimate for the work discussed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Drexel Hill Stucco Remediation

How do I know if I need stucco remediation or stucco repair?
Targeted repair may be appropriate for isolated cracks, chips, stains, or small damaged areas when the underlying wall system is sound. Remediation is considered when moisture has moved behind the stucco, damage is widespread, or concealed materials need repair or replacement. An assessment is the best way to determine the appropriate scope.
Gormley Construction typically identifies a four-to-eight-week range for stucco remediation projects. The actual schedule depends on the size of the home, the extent of water damage, the materials selected, and weather conditions. A project-specific timeline is reviewed during planning.
Coverage depends on the cause of the damage and the terms of your policy. Storm-related damage may be treated differently from deterioration, installation defects, or deferred maintenance. Contact your insurance provider for coverage guidance before work begins, and share the insurer’s requirements with your remodeling team.
Gormley Construction does not publish a standard price because remediation costs depend on the condition of the home and the work required. The process begins with a consultation and assessment, followed by tailored recommendations and a detailed estimate. Eligible homeowners may also ask about the financing options shown on Gormley Construction’s website.
